Case Study #3

My daughter had been masking for years with school not noticing that she was struggling. She was showing so much anxiety at home but teachers had no concerns. It was hard to find any professionals who believed us and we felt constantly judged or dismissed until we met Scott. The support Scott has given our family has meant the world to us.

After eventually receiving an autism diagnosis, we were left with no support and didn’t know what resources to look for. Scott let us borrow some books around autism to gain a better understanding. They also spent some time reading children’s books about autism with my daughter to help her recognise anything that was similar to what she had been going through. She enjoyed this and could relate to many of the things described in the books.

Other things Scott did included working on resources with my daughter for her to use. One of them was a communication passport to describe what helps her communication needs and when this can be difficult. Another involved using sheets of paper where my daughter would draw or list things that she struggled with, as well as what helped her.

Through this, my daughter was able to understand her own needs and discover new supports. Some of the lists she created with Scott were later shared with other professionals at meetings to help inform them of her needs and experiences. This was so helpful as they would never have known she had been feeling anything described on the lists and it allowed her authentic views to be shared in the meetings.

Scott has helped my daughter to open up more about her worries and anxieties, many of which we didn’t know about before. They have adapted to her needs and taken the time to truly understand her. I will always be grateful for Scott and the support our family has received. I cannot recommend Scott enough!
